How California Teachers Can Get a $300 Refund from Their Misguided Union

California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore has posted on his website a great editorial complete with instructions on how teachers can demand refunds of the political portion of their dues paid to the California Teachers Association. DeVore asks:
How can a union that purports to represent 330,000 California teachers justify giving $1,000,000 of teachers’ dues money to [oppose] an initiative that has nothing to do with taxes or education?  Is it because they want more public school 1st graders to go on field trips during the school day to participate in same-sex marriages as happened last week in San Francisco?  At the most basic level how does giving $1 million of dues money to support same-sex marriage increase teachers’ salaries or benefits?  It doesn’t, of course.
DeVore suggests that teachers who disagree and who want to take a stand follow the instructions here to get about a $300 refund of their dues. That should make an impact. DeVore suggests teachers who want to support Proposition 8 turn around and donate that refund to www.protectmarriage.com.

My two cents is not really a suggestion, but just a "what if." What if a very large number of public school children were sick and absent on  Monday, October 20th, all throughout the state? Would that have an impact on funding and school budgets? What if.
