Clay Huckaby: Same-Sex Marriage Abridges Religious and Free Speech Rights

My friend and Prop. 8 activist Clay Huckaby just posted a blog comment under Dennis Prager's latest column. Read them both. But Huckaby especially makes this salient point:
Nevertheless, upon closer investigation of the claims made by Gay lifestyle promoters it seems clear now that they are not aware of what is happening even in their own movement.  It is already becoming a hate crime in Massachusetts, for voicing opinions against homosexuality.  The Gay and Lesbian blogs are full of denials that they would ever file lawsuits against Churches or demand that schools teach homosexuality; this is just not true.  The message that the [Catholic] Bishop is talking about is becoming fact in both states that allow Homosexuals to marry and if you dig even further you will discover that freedom of speech in some European countries is non-existent when it comes to Homosexual issues.
There's just too much proof, folks. The cat's out of the bag. Where homosexuality advances beyond mere traditional tolerance on into social institutions like marriage, it MUST clash with preexisting religious and free speech rights. One side has to give. Recent history in Massachusetts--and even now in California--prove this is true. As Huckaby points out, for the same-sex marriage crowd, tolerance goes only one direction.

New Poll Has Proposition 8 (Traditional Marriage) Leading

According to the L.A. Times, both a new CBS poll and No on 8's own internal poll show Proposition 8 now has a slight lead in California. This was attributed to the present fund raising advantage and consequent t.v. ad buy for Yes on 8 forces.

I've been a political junkie all of my adult life, and I must say, I've never seen anything parallel to the grass roots effort to save marriage in California. Ever. Anywhere.

Ever see a grand finale to a world class fireworks show? Get ready for the grass-roots political campaign equivalent.

$25 Million and Counting--A Bargain to Save Marriage

Yes on 8 forces have raised over $25 million in the battle to save traditional marriage from the activist courts. But it's nip and tuck. The opposition is on our heels and trying furiously to match it.

Video--Indoctrination of Children on Horizon if Proposition 8 Fails

This video tells the story of two Massachusetts parents who understandably were startled by some things they found in junior's "Diversity Book Bag." Junior was a 5 yr. old kindergartner. His public school gave every student one of these bags, and junior brought his home. Inside was a little book entitled What's In a Family. Inside What's in a Family is indoctrination in the recognition and acceptance of, among other things, same-sex marriages. It's a small children's picture book that is supposed to let children know that families come in all shapes and sizes and races. But they had to go and slip the same-sex thing in there, as well.

Expect this to happen in California, especially if Proposition 8 fails to pass. Watch the whole video. Email it to everyone.

Same-Sex Marriage Leads to Anarchy for Children

Just about every consequence that Proposition 8 advocates predict will happen in the wake of same-sex marriage is already happening. Same-sex marriage advocates uniformly damn them as "lies, lies, all lies!," but there's just too much proof, and it's flooding in daily. Here's another piece of it. In Montana,  where voters rejected same-sex marriage four years ago by a 2-1 margin, a judge nevertheless awarded shared custody rights over an 8 year old boy and a 5 year old girl to the former same-sex partner of a now married adoptive mother. The lesbian couple shacked up for a time. One of the women adopted the two children and became the legal mother. The couple separated. The mother changed her mind and married a man. The former lesbian partner then sued and won parental rights! Now what? I mean, for the kids? Mommy and mommy and maybe, daddy? What if Mommy 2 marries or shacks up again? What if partner of Mommy 2 sues for parental rights? Who are the grandparents? Adoption is supposed to be a high hurdle for the benefit of the children, not for the adult seeking validation, and prevention of chaos is surely one of the least reasons why.

Prop. 8 advocates predicted this problem. Marriage expert and author David Blankenhorn (The Future of Marriage, 2008) has been sounding the alarm bells for many years, now. The separation of the social and legal rights and incidents of the marriage institution is bound to lead to these chaotic consequences. Same-sex marriage and things like it will lead to further familial anarchy, legal chaos, and worst of all, dilution of children's family ties and natural attachments.

Governor Vetoes Harvey Milk Day

Governor Schwarzenegger did the right thing by vetoing the Harvey Milk Day bill. It was another vaguely worded Trojan horse that would have required public schools to instruct students in the ways and dignity of homosexual behavior. Had it passed, it would have added to the indoctrination bill that the Governor DID sign last year.

School Board Report Shows Failure of Prop. 8 Will Require Students to be Taught About Gay Marriage

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports that Chino Valley Unified School District voted 4-0 to endorse Proposition 8. The most interesting thing about this endorsement is that the Board based it on a report commissioned for the District. Apparently it wanted to know whether it was true that should Prop. 8 fail, California school curriculum would have to teach students aspects of gay marriage. Opponents insist that is untrue, that Prop 8. has nothing to do with the Education Code or with school curriculum. I have posted many times on this, showing that Education Code sec. 51890(a)(1)(D) does indeed require that schools teach students about the "the legal and financial aspects and responsibilities of marriage and parenthood." It looks like the report to the Board concluded what should be obvious, that curriculum must adapt to the current definition of marriage. If the current definition of marriage includes same-sex spouses, students would have to be instructed in "the legal and financial aspects and responsibilities of marriage and parenthood" for same-sex couples as well as normal couples. There would be no avoiding this without major lawsuit. Textbooks would have to reflect marital "diversity," and classroom instruction could never elevate one form of marriage over the other. Both would have to be mentioned. And the problem could not be avoided by failing to mention either, because the law positively requires instruction in marriage. Finally, there is no exception for the early, primary grades. Kindergartners on up would have to hear or see this stuff.

Kudos to the Board of Chino Valley Unified School District for not taking rash action without a study, and then for its courage upon learning the result.

"Whether You Like It Or Not!" Yes on 8's First Big T.V. Ad!

Finally. Here it is, the first pro-Prop. 8 t.v. commercial. https://www.icontribute.us/protectmarriage/initiative/firstademail
The phrase, "Whether You Like It Or Not," is not mine or any Prop. 8 advocate's "in your face" slogan... it belongs to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who said those words about same-sex marriage being forced upon California by last May's California Supreme Court decision.

Levi's Donates Against Prop. 8

Jeans and clothing maker Levi's, Inc. has donated $25,000 to defeat California's Proposition 8. Levi's chairman has  Fine. I'll keep donating my clothing dollar to Eddie Bauer. I liked their jeans better, anyway.

Liberal Democrat Marriage Expert Favors Traditional Marriage As Best for Children

Liberal Democrat and marriage expert David Blankenhorn has long held that the primary purpose of traditional marriage between a man and a woman is to create AND RAISE children. As I have studied his arguments in his book, The Future of Marriage, I have become completely persuaded by them. All those studying the issue of same sex marriage, regardless of preexisting sympathies, ought to get and read his book. Meanwhile, you can get a sample of his thinking in this L.A. Times editorial.

Opponents of Prop. 8 Using Celebrity Fundraisers to Catch Up

The L.A. Times reports that although Yes on Prop. 8 remains some $5 million ahead of the opposition, it is trying furiously to catch up. Brad Pitt's $100,000 donation to No on 8 sparked a second $100,000 donation by Steven Spielberg. You know how the liberal celebrity thing is... one upsmanship on causes de jour. Expect more of this. Meanwhile, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will cohost a $5,000 a plate fundraiser with New York Governor David Patterson. Moreover, No on 8 just aired its first t.v. ad. Yes on 8 is supposed to start its ads next week. One can only hope.

Prop. 8's Polling Anemia Not Decisive

The 38-55% recent Field Poll disfavoring passage of Prop. 8 (California's Marriage Amendment) certainly isn't news traditional marriage proponents were hoping for. Nevertheless, as noted in the post below and elsewhere, the Field Poll usually undercounts the traditional marriage position by 7-10% points. Moreover, Yes-on-8 is still outraising No-on-8 by 3-2. Seven percent of the voters are undecided, and we have yet to launch the t.v. ad campaign. And then there's turnout. Traditionalists can still win this thing, and same-sex marriage proponents are rightly concerned.
